.:Featured Article - Time for a Spring Cleaning:.

With winter fading and the warmth of spring coming on, the one thing we love to do is open the windows, and do our spring cleaning. After being closed up in the house all winter, your computer also needs a good spring cleaning. The older computers of a few year ago, didn't have the internal cooling fans, that sucked in all the lint around the house. However the computers today require constant air circulation to aid in cooling, with all that air they pull, they also collect dust and other oddities inside on the various components.
DUST CAN DAMAGE YOUR COMPUTER!
Dust can slow down air flow inside your PC casing by building up on your cooling fan, which can raise the computer's temperature to dangerous levels. This can cause your computer to fail prematurely, and you can lose data. This can happen even more quickly if you're a pet owner, smoker, or have your computer tower on a carpet.
One of the most common problems we see, is heavy dust accumulation on fans, dust bunnies in nooks and crannies and in some cases even critters. All of these can have an effect on how well your computer runs.
You should have your computer cleaned out periodically just as you clean your house. You have two options, do it yourself, or take it to a professional.
DID YOU KNOW?
The electromagnetic energy inside the CPU acts as a magnet and literally attract 20% more dust and dirt into the environment than would normally be found
there.
Many try to clean their systems on your own, however we do not recommend this. It is very easy to
accidentally
unplug something or dislodge one of your components. The normal home user should consider taking their system to a repair shop to get this done. It is a nominal fee, but alot cheaper than a repair bill if something goes wrong.
A professional can do a better job of cleaning it out and make sure the components are all snug, the wires and connections are all ok. At Journey Systems, we also take the time to clean the optical drives.
While dust isn't as much of a problem with keyboards, other debris regularly gets lodged between the keys, which can make certain keys stick. The keyboard, like the mouse, can carry germs.
Keyboard cleaning tip: Shut down computer, unplug keyboard. Turn it over and gently shake loose the debris that has collected under the keys.
Then use cotton swabs and rubbing alcohol to clean the top of each key and between the keys.
